What children know about language: Arguments for and against innateness

In this talk I claim that most arguments concerning the innateness of syntax – whether for it or against it – are not good arguments. After I review those arguments, I propose what I think is a good argument and present two case studies of the speech of two- and three-year-olds that illustrate the argument.
